The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) sets the standards that all early years’ providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe.

Each area of learning and development is implemented through planned, purposeful play and through a mix of adult-led and child-initiated activity.  Play is essential for children’s development, building their confidence as they learn to explore, to think about problems and relate to others.  Children learn by leading their own play and by taking part in play which is guided by adults.

The Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum is set out in three Prime areas of learning and four Specific areas of learning.

The Prime areas are:

  • Personal, Social and Emotional development
  • Communication and Language development
  • Physical Development

The Specific areas are:

  • Literacy development
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding of the world
  • Expressive arts and design

See what our parents have to say…

I was very confident when sending my second child to Rainbows as I knew he was going into a warm, caring environment where he would be treated as an individual with his own set of specific needs. There have been many changes to Rainbows over the last few years to reflect the needs of our community as a whole but parents have been consulted every step of the way and their view is taken into account.

How likely would you recommend? Extremely Likely by H.S (Mother of Child) 2019

We cannot recommend Rainbows Nursery enough. Our little 16 months old loves it there and it is a pleasure to see how much she learns at Rainbows each day and how excited she is to show us when she gets home. Some of the main benefits that Rainbows offer for us is that it is local and we like to support local but mostly it is the team at Rainbows. They are fantastic, they are engaged and come across as genuinely interested in the children and their learning and experience. Rainbows are very flexible and are not too rigidly structured which really suits our little one. We especially love that it is a small nursery, not one of those with hundreds of kids where your child is just a number and structure has to be rigid in order to cater for all the kids. Each of the team members knows our little one so well as well as her likes and dislikes. The village hall offers lots of indoor space for running around and outdoor space for days with better weather.

Rainbows is an exceptional nursery school, and our 3yr-old son loves going there. Since he started his character has become much more confident and he has become increasingly interested in new activities and learning. The manager and her lovely team have built a great rapport with him and are terrific in varying the pace between one-on-one learning and attention and stepping back and letting him lose himself in messy or creative play. Because of the amount of space in the village hall, all the children are free to play in different areas without crowding each other, and a number of different ‘zones’ are set-up daily. These rotate between all sorts of different activities including puzzles, cars, messy play, dressing up, reading, nature tables, etc. From our experience with previous nurseries, this one honestly stands head and shoulders above others in helping little souls develop in a happy and encouraging environment. I recommend Rainbows to all parents who are looking for great day care.
